BIAC
Founded in 1962, the Business and Industry Advisory Committee to the OECD (BIAC) brings together the advice and counsel of the business communities of the member countries of the OECD. BIAC participates in OECD committee work and research. Based on facts and analysis it formulates public policy recommendations in a diverse number of areas, varying from trade liberalization and sustainable development to e-commerce taxation and biotechnology.
BIAC is part of the institutional set-up of the OECD Guidelines together with the National Contact Points (NCPs), the Investment Committee and TUAC. If there is a dispute about the applicability of the Guidelines, BIAC may ask the Investment Committee to consider an amendment to the text or a clarification of a particular clause.
For more information about BIAC’s view on the OECD Guidelines see the "Guidelines Business Briefs", a series of one-page publications created by the BIAC Secretariat. These Business Briefs provide information on the key procedural aspects of the OECD Guidelines and, from a business perspective, discuss the most pressing policy issues affected by updates to the Guidelines. According to BIAC, “the Briefs also serve as a tool for influencing the evolving consensus on how to deal with complaints against companies under the Guidelines, bringing a clear business position to a debate heretofore monopolised by trade unions and NGOs”.
