The fourth Annual Conference of the Australian Center for Corporate Social Responsibility (ACCSR), ‘Meeting the Standard: The Post-GFC World of Responsible Business Practice’ was held on Friday, 19th February, 2010. The main theme of the conference examined the International Organization for Standardization’s (ISO) forthcoming Guidance Standard on Social Responsibility – ISO 26000.
In a roundtable session "What standards do NGOs expect from business?" OECD Watch members Joris Oldenziel from SOMO and Serena Lillywhite from Oxfam Australia critically reflected on the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises. Additionally, in an interview with Dr Wayne Visser, CEO of CSR International, Joris Oldenziel express his concerns regarding the effectiveness of the OECD Guidelines: although the complaint mechanism and broad coverage of issues makes the OECD Guidelines a valuable instrument, they have not yet reached their full potential.
