ANPED - The Northern Alliance for Sustainability
The Northern Alliance for Sustainability (ANPED) was founded in 1991 to bring NGOs across the Northern hemisphere together. The founding members recognised that rich nations from the north have very specific environmental responsibilities with regard to the impact of their policies on the poorer south. In 1992, the United Nations (UN) Earth Summit recognised these and suggested that; ‘The major cause of global environmental degradation was unsustainable consumption and production patterns in those richer nations’. Ever since this summit, ANPED’s main focus has been on sustainable production and consumption (SPAC) issues. In addition to this, ANPED was active in several policy themes such as local sustainability, human rights and sustainable development, nuclear issues, sustainable energy, agriculture, biodiversity and genetically modified organisms (GMO’s).
ANPED offers a platform for NGO’s in the Eastern and Western parts of the Northern hemisphere to work together. The majority of our members are from the EECCA region (Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia). Next to linking Europe with North America, ANPED also has strong links with southern NGO networks.| Contact info |
