Association 4D (Dossiers et Debats pour le Developpement Durable)

It was in 1993, following the Rio Earth Summit, that Association 4D was created in order to set up a citizen’s network to promote sustainable development and to keep track of the commitments made by France as well as the other UN member-States. In the lead-up to the following summit, held in Johannesburg in 2002, 4D was selected to ensure the coordination of French civil-society organisations.

All the themes that Association 4D works on have an international dimension, but are also fully coherent with the actions undertaken at all levels of society. Indeed, 4D has always considered the territorial approach, right down to working with local citizens, essential. It is through this action at the “grassroots” level that 4D has developed most of its knowledge and capabilities.  It firmly believes that citizen participation (even when this may difficult) is absolutely necessary in any project whose aim is sustainable development.
