HELIO International

HELIO International’s aim is to promote the energy sector’s contribution to long-term ecodevelopment, in particular by stimulating the implementation of international agreements in the field of energy and environment, and more specifically commitments entered into at the 1992 Rio Earth Summit. In order to achieve this aim, the organisation identifies, undertakes and supports, in Europe and in the rest of the world, the measures and policies aimed at promoting sustainable management of energy, respect for the environment and deployment of renewable sources of energy. After a meeting at the OECD on the MAI, we were instrumental in its cancellation by properly briefing the French Ministry of Finance with a lawyer of the TNI. We have an upstream, proactive approach and concentrate on energy decision-makers. Our HELIO reports on energy policy are destined to influence policymakers' decisions. We do not refer specifically to the OECD Guidelines however, not just yet! But we hope to learn about them and begin to use them in the near future. As an example, at the present time we are one of the only NGOs that are part of the team (mostly utilities and investors) doing the selection of criteria/indicators applicable to electric utilities within the Global Reporting Initiative.
