L'Entraide Missionaire
Entraide Missionnaire was founded in 1958 by Catholic missionary congregations. First devoted to missionary training with a social justice and human rights perspective, it became a place where specific countries were examined and action discussed to try and make positive changes taking into consideration the Canadian policy towards them. These include : Haiti, African Great Lakes region, Brazil, Middle East. It was at the beginning of the Congolese war (1996) that, with Congolese partners, Entraide Missionnaire started being aware of the crucial impact of the mining sector in the war and, at the same time, of the significant presence of Canadian companies. Since then, Entraide Missionnaire has been involved in Canadian NGO initiatives to make the national government take responsibility for regulating this sector according to human right and social justice standards.
