SÜDWIND (Institut für Ökonomie und Ökumene)

The association, SÜDWIND e. V., was founded on 28th January 1991 in Cologne by Christians from five different denominations (Methodist, Roman Catholic, Old Catholic, Mennonite and Protestant) and is a non-profit organisation. The work of SÜDWIND is based on the conviction that there is a connection between the prosperity of industrial nations and the poverty that is prevalent across broad sections of society in developing countries. In numerous areas of research, the SÜDWIND studies demonstrate that those in Germany – the political world, the economy as well as the consumer – must bear part of the responsibility for the deficiencies in developing countries. Going beyond mere analysis of the problems, SÜDWIND seeks possible ways to take direct action: how, in the interests of the poor, can the situation be transformed to bring about economic justice?
