The Economic, Social and Cultural Rights Project (ProDESC) is a feminist organisation with a transnational scope and an intersectional vision of the defence of human rights, founded in 2005 by Alejandra Ancheita. With the implementation of the integral defence method, designed under a series of strategic lines, the ProDESC team defends and accompanies community processes by attending to 3 fundamental rights:
1. Right to land and territory
2. Human labour rights
3. The right to defend rights
ProDESC has the fundamental objective of defending and promoting Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ESCR), in order to contribute to their enforcement, justiciability (the possibility of demanding their fulfilment before the courts) and enforceability, and thus build a fairer and more equitable society.
In the absence of adequate public policies for people’s access, especially women’s, to ESC rights and to institutionalised decision-making processes, ProDESC has developed a comprehensive advocacy method to address the problems faced by its target population.
The integral defence method is the accompaniment model applied by ProDESC to address violations of the economic, social and cultural rights of communities and collectives. This proposal, unique in Mexico, is perfected and complemented over time in a joint creative exercise that involves communities and collectives as a central element.
The integral defence method is based on a series of strategic lines that, when applied harmoniously, increase the likelihood of access to justice and the enjoyment of economic, social and cultural rights for communities and collectives not only in Mexico, but also in the Global South.
